When I was a kid, I used to watch this, A LOT. Especially when I was in Aussie, I would get up every morning at some ungodly hour, just to watch Lamb Chops Play Along, and have a bowl of Nutrigrain.

And I always, till today, thought the lamb sock puppet, was really a lamb. As in, a soft toy lamb.

These cravens are actually dry river beds. Come december or so, when rain falls, the water will stream down from the craggy mountains and rush through these paths. Strong currents, so that means these parts will be inaccessible to drivers. Or anyone else for that matter.

This is part of an old-school irrigation system used in the oasis, water is drawn from the well, and then stored in a high tank, which then lets the water flow into these channels at relatively high pressure. There are gaps in these paths along the fields where water then flows into the fields to water the plants. But the water is warm.

The guide said that if you fall down this well, you will die. Make no mistakes about it. After that warning, I stayed clear away from the edge.

Coriander.

Mint. It is slightly disconcerting to see a sudden patch of vivid green amidst dried crops, sand, and rocks.

Dates. But these won’t be ripe for another 2 weeks or so.

These were all part of an oasis in Oman.

We went to the Red Sand Dunes. The sand here is almost scorching hot. But oh, so fine to touch! Gorgeous, the golden hue.

It does look like the camel is kissing the dude isn’t it? Poor camel.

So liquid, the eyes!

In this Gold Souk, all that glitters is gold. And mind you, no fake stuff here.

The Carrefour in Dubai’s Mall of Emirates is gigantuang! There were rows and rows of food, and different varieties for all kinds of food. There were at least 5 types of tomatoes! Including a variety called Black Tomato.

Wild Wadi exterior. I’m too much of a coward to hazard the water rides so we didn’t head there.

Air-conditioned busstops. Don’t you wish we had this in Singapore?

Finally I get to try this.

Had a big lunch at an Iranian Restaurant – Hatam.

Went to Dubai Marina to catch a glimpse of the world’s tallest hotel – Burj Al Arab.

First day here and I don’t mind the heat. It’s a good start I hope.

It was 32 degrees when I landed at 1.40am. I have not stepped out since, and the guide told me ever so nicely last night that day temperature is approximately 42 degrees. I am not exactly looking forward to melting like a puddle of flesh, but I suppose I will survive.

My brother told me there were many sites banned here in Dubai, and I must admit, I thought he was just messing with me. But it turns out that, there are indeed harmless sites banned here. Case in point: Flickr. Because when you access the site, you see this image on the page instead.

I love flying. I love aeroplanes. They have a certain grace despite their bulk. The sight of a plane taking off is beautiful. So I kept my eyes glued to the window the whole time during take-off. And that’s why I usually take a window seat.

The airport was so busy, but I didn’t dare to take a picture cuz there were frightening looking people striding around. Hah. Damn hum!

Luckily, there was someone to pick me up and help me bypass all the queues for immigration and what not. They had rows of queues of people in line to have their eye scanned. Boy am I lucky to get pass that one.

So I won’t be back till 9 June. Quite apologetic that I’m skipping outta town during a fairly busy period in ura but well. I suppose souvenirs would be in order. Meanwhile, I should be heading out soon. But I’m bumming around now since it’s still 9.47am, and the brothers are asleep.

It’s a strange feeling, being here. It’s as if I went back in time since it’s 4 hours behind SG here. It’s surreal when at 2am, I was asleep on the plane, and again at 2am the same day, I have touched down, clearing customs.

Dubai at night reminds me of Singapore at night. All concrete and lights. Busy as anything.

Have not seen such a satisfyingly sweet (and not mushy) movie for a long long time. The Japanese have got these kind of movies down pat. I love the way the three stories tied up so nicely! And, Takeshi Kaneshiro is still hot. ^_^

I’m going to register for lessons. And this time, I hope I don’t give up halfway. I have such bad luck with languages!

edit@0306hrs: When Gordon Ramsay sets up his new restaurant in Sentosa, I definitely want to eat there. Even if it means I eat grass for a month. I would dearly love to see Jean-Phillipe pottering around like a fussy hen. He’s a cool dude. ^_^

The weather is so freakin hot of late that I feel like melting into a mess of goo everytime I take one step out the door. It’s so hot that the wind is warm, and a layer of humidity bogs down on everything. It’s so hot that I’m irritable, and pinpricks of headaches herald their entrance with a fanfare of bongo drums. Damn.

On the flipside, I bought new shoes! Problem is, they are half a size too big for me.. But they were the last pair, so I got them.
